Amazon Kindle Fire tablet is official, priced at just $199 (Yahoo! News)

The web's largest retailer is aiming for the top of the tablet market

The?long-rumored Amazon tablet is finally here. The new device ? which has been dubbed the Kindle Fire ? is poised to take on its?Android and?iOS competitors this holiday season, but does it stand a chance? Let's take a look at what the new slate has to offer and see if we can determine where it will stand when the tablet wars dust finally settles.

A true Amazon experience
Amazon's take on the consumer tablet is a bit different than what we're used to seeing from the droves of Android slates and Apple's?iPad line. With the Kindle Fire, it's all about Amazon. If you're looking for high-resolution cameras and a plethora of random third-party apps, this isn't the device for you. But if your ideal tablet experience includes seamless eBook integration and a marketplace of the best hand-picked apps available for the Android platform, you may have found the perfect device. (Check out our Kindle Fire gallery to see the device from every angle)

The Kindle Fire runs on a highly-customized version of the Android operating system. Amazon has gone to great lengths to make its tablet stand out from the rest of the Android clones on the market by tweaking the OS to its own purposes. When new updates for Android roll out to the likes of the Xoom and Galaxy Tab, the Fire will likely rely on Amazon for software upgrades.

Amazon's tablet is finally here

Books, movies, and music
As any web-goer can tell you, Amazon is the one-stop shop for just about anything you could ever want to buy online. The Fire looks to capitalize on that by allowing users to easily browse the company's collection of downloadable movies, music, and apps. If there's one digital storefront that could challenge iTunes, it's Amazon's massive archive.

Users will be able to rent, buy, and preview new content right on the device. You can place your favorite titles right on your home screen for easy access or browse your entire collection via tabs on the top of the screen.?The?Amazon App Marketplace includes hit games like?Angry Birds and?Cut The Rope, as well as social networking apps like Facebook and Twitter. There are thousands of additional downloads also available, and unlike the anything-goes nature of the Android Marketplace, Amazon's version has a bit more quality control.

Hardware
As early rumors have suggested, the Kindle Fire sports a 7" backlit display with touchscreen capabilities. There is a generous bezel surrounding the entire display, which looks like it will be a perfect place to rest your thumbs as you page through an eBook. In short, the tablet looks a lot like the BlackBerry PlayBook, and with good reason ??Gdgt reports that both devices were built by the same manufacturer, with the PlayBook used as a starting point for Amazon's tablet wishes.

Compared to the iPad's 9.7" screen and the new Galaxy Tab's 10.1" display, the Fire comes up a bit short. However, with a slightly smaller form factor comes added portability. Not everyone wants to be lugging around a 10" tablet on their daily trip to the coffee shop, but the sleek 7" Fire may just be small enough to grab on your way out the door.

Enter the cloud
There is also a big emphasis on using the cloud to hold much of your content. With just 8GB of internal memory, the Fire will rely heavily on non-local storage to make sure you have as much room as you need for your movies and music ? and at no additional monthly cost. The launch of?Amazon Cloud Drive earlier this year was the perfect precursor, and with plenty of Amazon customers already using the service, it should be easy to access all that content with just a few taps on the touchscreen.

Fire owners who use Amazon to watch movies on their TVs will be able to wirelessly sync their content and stop a show or movie on one device and pick up in the same spot on another. Netflix customers will be familiar with this concept, and while it's certainly a convenient feature, it's not totally groundbreaking.

The Fire will also use the cloud for web browsing. A new browser called Amazon Silk aims to make rendering web content on the go faster than ever. In a demonstration during the Amazon press event today, company CEO Jeff Bezos showcased the smooth page transitions that the new tablet can perform while browsing the web. The built-in web browser can prioritize certain aspects of a web page to optimize performance, which is great when you're using a mobile broadband connection.

Priced to sell
Perhaps the best feature of the Kindle Fire is its almost laughably low price of $199. In an iPad-dominated world, pricing a new tablet at less than half of what Apple is charging ? the base model iPad 2 is $499 ? is indeed a smart move. What's more, the Fire already has a massive body of customers comfortable and loyal to the Kindle brand name, which is something no other iPad competitor can boast.

Amazon's new tablet will begin shipping on November 15, and it looks to be a solid contender to the iPad. If there's anyone who can pose a threat to Apple's dominance in the tablet market, it's Amazon, and the Fire is the first step towards achieving that goal. A rock-bottom price and list of impressive features should serve the company well in its first true tablet outing, but we'll have to see how consumers respond before declaring it a success.

The company has been quick to spread the word on the web, and the first Kindle Fire ad is already lighting up social networking circles. Take a look below!

(AP) ? China launched an experimental module to lay the groundwork for a future space station on Thursday, underscoring its ambitions to become a major space power over the coming decade.

The box car-sized Tiangong-1 module was shot into space from the Jiuquan launch center on the edge of the Gobi Desert aboard a Long March 2FT1 rocket.

It is to move into an orbit 217 miles (350 kilometers) above the Earth and conduct surveys of Chinese farmland using special cameras, along with experiments involving growing crystals in zero gravity.

China then plans to launch an unmanned Shenzhou 8 spacecraft to practice remote-controlled docking maneuvers with the module, possibly within the next few weeks. Two more missions, at least one of them manned, are to meet up with it next year for further practice, with astronauts staying for up to one month.

The 8.5-ton module, whose name translates as "Heavenly Palace-1," is to stay aloft for two years, after which two other experimental modules are to be launched for additional tests before the actual station is launched in three sections between 2020 and 2022.

"This is a significant test. We've never done such a thing before," Lu Jinrong, the launch center's chief engineer, was quoted as saying by the official Xinhua News Agency.

The space station, which is yet to be formally named, is the most ambitious project in China's exploration of space, which also calls for landing on the moon, possibly with astronauts.

In terms of technology, the launch of the Tiangong-1 places China about where the U.S. was in the 1960s during the Gemini program. While it is planning fewer launches than the U.S. carried out, the Chinese program progresses farther than the U.S. did with each launch it undertakes, said Joan Johnson-Freese, a space expert at the U.S. Naval War College in Rhode Island.

"China has the advantage, 40-plus years later, of not having to start at the bottom of the learning curve on its human spaceflight program," Johnson-Freese said.

China's authoritarian, centralized political system also offers the advantage of freedom from political wrangles over funding and clearly defines the program's long-term goals within Soviet-style five-year plans.

China launched its first manned flight in 2003, joining Russia and the United States as the only countries to launch humans into orbit and generating huge amounts of national pride for the Communist government.

However, habitual secrecy and the space program's close links with the military have inhibited cooperation with other nations' space programs ? including the International Space Station.

At about 60 tons when completed, the Chinese station will be considerably smaller than the 16-nation ISS, which is expected to continue operating through 2028.

China applied repeatedly to join the ISS, but was rebuffed largely on objections from the U.S., prompting it to adopt a go-it-alone strategy.

While the program has proceeded with no apparent major problems, the launch of the Tiangong-1 module was delayed for one year for technical reasons, and then rescheduled again after a Long March 2C rocket similar to the Long March 2F failed to reach orbit in August. The incident with the rocket was investigated and problems were reportedly resolved.

Although experts see no explicit military function for the Chinese space station, the country's other space-based military programs, including the destruction of a defunct Chinese satellite with a rocket in 2007, have caused alarm overseas.

"It is a nation doing its own thing saying, 'OK, we can do what you did for our own country separate from cooperation, on Chinese terms,'" said Charles Vick, an expert on the Chinese space program with Globalsecurity.org, which tracks military and security news.

Numerous challenges lie ahead, including the attempt to dock remotely ? U.S. astronauts handled the maneuver from aboard their spacecraft. The Long March 5 rocket that is being prepared to launch the 20-ton modules for the actual space station also remains untested.

Still, Beijing is expected to press ahead whatever the difficulties as long as it continues to result in international prestige, domestic credibility, technological advancement, and economic spin-offs, Johnson-Freese and Vick said.

"Basically, they will get what they want regardless of how long or what it takes for the authoritarian state to accomplish the assigned tasks," Vick said.

Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron

WASHINGTON, September 27, 2011 - The Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron (ABIA), its founding members and several community partners are the recipients of a national $500,000 award to fund the Accountable Care Community (ACC) initiative, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced today. ACC is a collective effort aiming to create a healthier community and lessen the burden of disease in the Akron region. The funding is part of a multimillion dollar CDC Community Transformation Program that supports public health efforts to reduce chronic diseases, promote healthier lifestyles, reduce health disparities, and control health care spending.

ABIA -- an unique collaboration of Akron Children's Hospital, Akron General Health System, Northeast Ohio Medical University, Summa Health System, The University of Akron and John S. and James L. Knight Foundation -- is the lead institution on the community grant and will collaborate with all of its founding members on the effort along with community partners, including Summit County Health District and Community Legal Aid Services. The ACC effort, focused on improving the community's health status and health care delivery while lessening the burden of disease, was launched at a national summit held in Akron in June.

"Through our collective efforts, we continue to establish Akron as an epicenter for patient-centered innovation and commercialization. Once again, we are receiving national recognition and support for the transformational power of our community's shared vision to create a healthier and more competitive region," said Dr. Frank L. Douglas, ABIA president and chief executive officer. "The work of this initiative, and that of our founding members, is moving us to improve lives and the productivity of our community."

The project is striving to focus all Akron-area public, private and philanthropic resources toward achieving improvements in population health and to closing gaps in health care delivery, through aligned or coordinated efforts and pioneering approaches. It focuses on chronic diseases, such as diabetes, obesity, asthma and hypertension.

"The enthusiasm and dedication of those involved in this initiative is tremendous," said Dr. Janine E. Janosky, Vice President of ABIA's Center for Clinical and Community Health Improvement (CCCHI), and leader of the ACC initiative. "We are pleased to have more than 60 organizations involved in this effort. Through the ACC, we are gathering a group of health providers who currently engage in disease prevention and health promotion, provide access and coordinate care, and manage chronic diseases. These professionals come from nearly every community outpost that may affect the health of individual residents of the Akron area. When completed the ACC will not only mean a healthier Akron region, but will be replicable to communities across the country."

The grant's funded efforts include fostering of community health leadership development; investigation of regional health programs; analysis of health policy areas including the areas of tobacco-free living, active lifestyles and healthy eating; and identifying the areas of greatest need in Summit County.

The initiative's steering committee continues to develop a community blueprint to guide Akron's development of an ACC that will further expand the efficiency of budgets and resources, and develop research to improve health through community and practice-based interventions.

Israel approves 1,100 more settlement homes (Reuters)

JERUSALEM (Reuters) ? Israel approved on Tuesday the construction of 1,100 settlement homes on annexed land in the West Bank, complicating global efforts to renew peace talks and defuse a crisis over a Palestinian statehood bid at the United Nations.

The plan was met with a chorus of Western criticism. Britain and the European Union called on Israel to reverse the decision, and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said new settlement building would be "counter-productive" to the efforts to revive peace talks.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas applied at the U.N. on Friday for full Palestinian membership, a move opposed by Israel and the United States, which urged him to resume negotiations.

Abbas has made a cessation of Israeli settlement building a condition for returning to talks which collapsed a year ago after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to extend a 10-month partial moratorium on construction.

The so-called Quartet of international mediators -- the United States, the European Union, Russia and the U.N. -- has called for talks to begin within a month and urged both sides not to take unilateral actions that could block peacemaking.

Saeb Erekat, the chief Palestinian negotiator, said the new housing units Israel wants to build represented "1,100 'noes' to the Quartet statement" urging a resumption of negotiations.

"Israel is challenging the will of the international community with the continued settlement policy," Nabil Abu Rdainah, an Abbas spokesman, said.

The new homes are to be built in Gilo, an urban settlement that Israel erected on land it captured in the West Bank in a 1967 war and annexed unilaterally as part of its declared capital, Jerusalem.

Palestinians want to create a state in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and say settlements could deny them a viable country. Israel cites historical and Biblical links to the West Bank, which it calls Judea and Samaria.

Some 500,000 settlers live in the territory home to 2.5 million Palestinians.

Israel's Interior Ministry said a district planning committee approved the Gilo project and public objections to the proposal could be lodged within a 60-day review period, after which construction could begin.

Despite the new crisis over settlements, Netanyahu held consultations on Tuesday with a forum of senior cabinet ministers about Quartet efforts to try and renew peace talks in the coming weeks, an Israeli political source said.

Palestinian leaders were expected to debate the Quartet's plan on Wednesday.

In New York on Monday, a divided U.N. Security Council met behind closed doors for its first discussion of last week's Palestinian application for full U.N. membership as a state.

The move seems certain to fail due to Israeli and U.S. opposition, despite substantial support by other governments.

Abu Rdainah said it was up to the Security Council to put a stop to Israel's settlement policy "which is destroying the two-state solution and putting more obstacles in front of any effort to bring about a resumption of negotiations."

In London, Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague said settlement expansion was illegal and "corrodes trust and undermines the basic principle of land for peace. We call on the Government of Israel to revoke this decision."

The European Union's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said she deplored the decision, adding: "I call on the Israeli authorities to reverse this plan."

Richard Miron, spokesman for U.N. Middle East envoy Robert Serry, called Israel's decision "very concerning."

Clinton said the Israeli decision was "counter-productive to our efforts to resume direct negotiations between the parties.

"As you know, we have long urged both sides to avoid any kind of action which could undermine trust, including, and perhaps most particularly, in Jerusalem, any action that could be viewed as provocative by either side," she told reporters at a news conference.

Cuba seeks normalization with US (AP)

UNITED NATIONS ? Cuba wants to re-establish relations with the United States with a focus on humanitarian and other issues, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said Monday.

Rodriguez also called on President Barack Obama to release five Cubans serving U.S. espionage sentences, telling the opening of the new U.N. General Assembly that the continued imprisonment of the five men convicted of espionage in 2001 is "inhumane." The Cuban government refers to the five men as heroes who were gathering information about terrorist groups in the United States to protect their homeland.

The foreign minister said the two countries had many points of understanding in common.

"The Cuban government reiterates its willingness and interest to move toward the normalization of relations with the United States," Rodriguez said.

"Today I reiterate the proposal of beginning a dialogue aimed at solving bilateral problems, including humanitarian issues, as well as the offer of negotiating several cooperation agreements to combat drug-trafficking, terrorism, human smuggling, prevent natural disasters and protect the environment."

Among the humanitarian issues pending between the two countries is the continued imprisonment of American Alan Gross, who the Cuban government accuses of illegally bringing communications equipment onto the island while on a USAID-funded democracy building program.

In March of this year he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for crimes against the state.

Cuban officials including President Raul Castro accused him of spying, but Gross says he was only trying to help the island's tiny Jewish community get Internet access.

The case has harmed any chance of improved relations between Washington and Havana, which briefly seemed to be getting better after Obama assumed the presidency.

In an interview with The New York Times during his current visit to the United States, Rodriguez did not rule out the possibility of Gross being freed for humanitarian reasons. But he indicated Cuba would expect some kind of reciprocal action.

Rodriguez did not mention Gross in his speech to the assembly on Monday, but spoke several times about the five imprisoned Cubans.

We have the tools to accomplish this, and we?ll show you exactly how to implement them. Money is very scalable, so you can actually get up into the millions, which will happen as your vision for what you want to accomplish increases.

National Restaurant Association Commends House Judiciary Committee for Passing ?Legal Workforce Act?

( Washington, D.C.) - (drinks media wire) - The National Restaurant Association today commended the House Judiciary Committee for passing the ?Legal Workforce Act,? legislation that would establish one federal E-Verify system, instead of today?s existing patchwork of inconsistent state and local rules that are unworkable for multi-state employers and their prospective employees.

?Uniformity is key to an industry of 960,000 restaurant and foodservice outlets comprised mostly of small businesses that employ nearly 13 million people,? said Scott DeFife, Executive Vice President of Policy and Government Affairs for the National Restaurant Association. ?We appreciate the work of Chairman Lamar Smith and members of the House Judiciary Committee who recognized the importance of one federal E-Verify system in the face of an untenable system of 50 different states and numerous local governments setting their own verification laws.?

The National Restaurant Association has worked steadily with Chairman Smith, who engaged the business community to create a workable E-Verify program for all employers, regardless of location, that accommodates their different needs. The E-Verify system allows employers to electronically verify that newly hired employees are legally authorized to work in the United States. Social Security numbers of new hires are checked against Social Security Administration and/or Department of Homeland Security records.

Wear protective eyewear while playing sports to reduce eye injuries ...

Over 90 percent of sports related eye injuries could be avoided if athletes wore protective eyewear according to the National Eye Institute. The National Society to Prevent Blindness reports that more than 40 percent of reported eye injuries happen to children under the age of 14.

While participants of sports such as boxing, hockey and racquetball obviously have a higher risk of eye injury, children 14 and under who play baseball or softball are at an increased risk of eye injury as well. Basketball is the leading cause of eye injuries among children 15 and older.

Very few baseball and softball leagues have any regulations about the use of protective eyewear. Protective eyewear advocates acknowledge that requiring every Little League player to wear eye protection is extreme and not likely to happen because of the additional cost. Any protective eyewear that is ASTM rates is a suitable choice for athletes.

'SVU' returns with arresting new approach

It?s been a busy summer for NBC?s long-running "Law & Order: SVU."

(TODAY.com is powered by msnbc.com, which is a joint venture between Microsoft and NBC Universal.)

In April, "Lights Out" showrunner Warren Leight boarded the drama boarded the drama to replace long-time head Neal Baer, who opted to step down from the procedural after more than a decade with the series. Then in May, co-star Chris Meloni parted ways with the drama on which he starred for 12 seasons after contract negotiations broke down. Meanwhile, rumors swirled that Meloni's on-screen partner, Mariska Hargitay, would be reducing her time with the series to spend more time with her family and new adopted daughter.

Internet speculation then kicked into high gear with rumors about Jennifer Love Hewitt coming in as a second female lead as Emmy nominee Hargitay?s commitment was debated. Meanwhile, the series continued booking stars, enlisting Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish, and bringing back a few familiar faces as well as some notable guests like Andre Braugher.

The Hollywood Reportercaught up with Leight to discuss how all the changes will impact Season 13 ? which kicks off Wednesday ? how Hargitay?s Detective Olivia Benson will handle the departure of her long-time partner Elliot Stabler (Meloni) and if viewers can expect to see any "Lights Out" stars checking in.

PHOTOS: Fall TV Preview 2011: The Returning Shows

THR: How have you been approaching taking over for Baer?

Leight: The show was running fine without me for 12 years and yet I feel things have to change because 12 years in you get a rejuvenator or you start losing ground. I have the sense that we needed to make changes. Then really before I began to explore how to go about that, Chris Meloni left the show. In some ways it made the task more apparent to everyone ? it could not be the same show because the co-star of the show was gone. Some of the questions that I was trying to figure out were forced. People cannot possibly interact the same way since Olivia?s partner is gone. In a way, it forced issues that I think probably needed to be dealt with early on. I believe 12 years in, the show had gotten into ? in a very natural way ? had evolved and certain patterns had set in and I was going to try and shake them up.

THR: When you boarded the show were you aware of the possibility that Meloni could exit?

Leight: No, no one ever tells you when you?re buying a car what?s wrong with it (laughs). I?ve worked with this organization before and everything always goes to the last minute and always settles. I had five years on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" where we never knew if the show was coming back. My assumption was that these guys would play out the negotiation and eventually it would work out that Chris would come back, but that was wrong. At the end of the day Chris was ready to move on and that?s really what it was about.

Hargitay: 'Olivia is very upside down' on 'SVU'
  1. More Entertainment stories
    1. Brad Pitt on TODAY: Aniston 'a dear friend'

The actor has a baseball movie to promote and in sitting down with Matt Lauer he still has to field some questions on those comments about his ex.

    2. Cowell: People will cheer if 'X Factor' fails
    3. Hurray! Eliminated 'DWTS' contestant cheers exit
    4. Tony Bennett apologizes for 9/11 remarks
    5. 'Lost' actor, teen bride score reality show

THR: How did his departure change your approach?

Leight: Our first thought was: How do you replace Chris? And the answer was: you don?t. You don?t want somebody coming in and becoming Olivia?s new partner and trying to manufacture that sort of co-dependent relationship they had. In a big squad room where someone has had a partner for 12 years and they leave, they often are a bit of a lone wolf after that ? they don?t take to a new partner too quickly. Olivia and Elliot?s partnership was very a complicated, deep, emotional relationship and they completed each other in many ways. So to just say, ?OK, we?re going to swap him out and slug in another alpha male with whom Olivia can have an unrequited love? just seemed a non-starter for me.

I thought, let?s open the field up, let?s look at men and women. When we did auditions, two people popped and to my amazement, NBC and (creator) Dick Wolf were fine with hiring both. That really freed up the show and changed the patterns. Any dynamic after 12 years, people get relegated to certain roles, so Mariska?s character was sort of empathic and Chris was the angry guy. Now everybody has to figure out who they are and how they relate to everybody in different ways. With the old guard of Capt. Cragen (Dann Florek) and Fin (Ice-T) and Olivia, they?ve got two new detectives in the squad room along with Munch (Richard Belzer) so there will be moments where people are mentored, where they miss Elliot?s character.

I wanted new blood in that room, I didn?t want another alpha male guy. Danny?s character is new to the sex crimes unit and Kelli is new to New York. That?s fun to play with and they have two very different approaches to interrogations: hers is more analytical, his is more intuitive. He?s more like a jazz musician; she?s more like a classical musician.

THR: How will Stabler?s absence be addressed?

Leight: The first episode revolves around an Italian politician accused of raping an maid, which is the main story line but just as important as an emotional story line is the discussion of, ?Where is Elliot? Is Elliot coming back? And what is Olivia?s reaction to his absence?? In the old days of "Law & Order," you just slap a new guy in and move on. I don?t think that?s the right approach to this and we?re not doing it. His absence is a big part of the story line of the first episode and we will not be putting a new detective at his desk for the whole season. It?s a big change in the squad room and people will process it in different ways over time. Nobody gets partnered up right away, there?s rotating partners. Mariska will be with Danny and sometimes with Kelli, Mariska and Fin; we?ll pair them up in different ways.

More Fall TV Preview News

THR: You?ve been very consistent this off-season on Twitter noting that Mariska Hargitay will be in all 22 episodes this season.

Leight: Have I? (Laughs.) It amazes me these rumors, I hate this about the Internet! Mariska will be in all 22; she?ll be much more present this year than she was last year. There were a lot of episodes she was barely part of last year where she?d in the first and last scenes. Capt. Cragen is also stronger this year and the squad room is under a lot of scrutiny and he has to step his game up to keep his guys in line. He?s much more engaged as a captain. Mariska will be there all 22; I don?t think Cragen is going anywhere on my watch. Rumors to the contrary are really annoying.

THR: And the rumors about Jennifer Love Hewitt coming aboard?

Leight: That was a great rumor but she will not be joining the show. She did a great job with her episode last year. I?ve got five detectives, a captain, district attorneys and a medical examiner, I have a nice ensemble. I liked writing for and working with an ensemble for "Lights Out" so one of the things I really wanted to do was return the ensemble feel to the show that?s been missing the last few years.

THR: How much of your desire to return the ensemble feel to the show was behind bringing back original cast members?

Leight: Diane Neal, Stephanie March, Munch is doing more, those guys haven?t been around as much as I think they could have been in the last few years. This has been a bizarre summer for cases that the SVU squad room would catch and a lot of them hinge on what happens in the courtroom and how it plays out between the D.A. and the defense attorneys. Neal, in real life, was a doctor before he was a showrunner so he naturally wrote more medically-oriented stories. I find the story lines this year were pulling more toward legal scenes than they have in the past and that allowed me the notion of bringing Stephanie and Diane back.

Story: Fall TV catch-up: What to expect when top shows return

This is the last "Law & Order" show on the air and this year there are more elements of the mothership in it than there has been in the past few years. There are interrogations that will remind "Criminal Intent" fans of the interrogations Vincent D?Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe used to do. With "In Treatment," I like getting into the psychology of the perps instead of just blaming them, so it?s a bit of a hybrid as opposed to pure "SVU;" there?s elements of the other shows popping up.

THR: Andre Braugher is also coming in, what can you share about his role?

Leight: Andre?s character comes in ? in the sixth episode ? and his back story is he was a very successful defense attorney for some very bad guys, like drug dealers and made a fortune and lost his soul in the process. Now he?s in this second stage of his life and trying to handle cases where defendants are not getting the representation they would if they were well off or had power. He?s trying to work off some of his guilt about what he?s done as a lawyer by taking on cases and challenging the authority of the NYPD and the D.A.?s Office; he?s almost a libertarian in the sense that he sees that the last 10 years have encroached upon civil liberties and the NYPD and the D.A.?s Office in his opinion have overreached and he?s trying to pull the scales back a bit toward the defense side. Even though he and Olivia are on the complete opposite side of almost all issues, they are both weary and true believers of their respective causes so they have some things in common.

'Law & Order's' Linus Roache returns ... to 'SVU'!

THR: So he?s not a love interest for Olivia?

Leight: There was Internet speculation of romance, and that started before I?d written a word about the guy. They?re two very smart people who have been pushing uphill for a long time and share a sense of battle fatigue even though they?ve been on opposite sides of the battle. I don?t see a need for it to go there. There?s lots of different kinds of friendships and different ways that people relate. Unrequited love with your partner isn?t necessarily something she needs to replace right away. I like to watch what happens between the actors and it doesn?t matter what I think is going to happen. If things happen, you let the characters and the story take over and you see where it goes and let that dictate. On the other hand, I don?t think Olivia has to be single and miserable for the rest of her NYPD career. It might be nice to see a moment or two where her life is not singularly bleak.

THR: Along with the cast changes, there?s also the big move to Wednesday nights.

Leight: I don?t think about the time slot, I?ve got so many other guillotines. I wanted to make some changes. In basic ways, I think the show was working very well. Neal and I write very differently and I?m inheriting his characters and a squad room and a really interesting show to write for. It was made clear to me when I came in that if the show kept going the way it was, it only had a year, maybe two years, left in it. When the head of the network tells you that, that will be a good thing to listen to.

THR: Did you consider bringing "Lights Out" star Holt McCallany in?
Leight: I offered Holt one of the first 10 episodes early on that had a nice part all worked out and Holt picked up a movie. I?ll have to find another nice part for him. In fact, it?s been a good luck charm: I offered Stacy Keach ("Lights Out?s" Pops) a part and after accepting he got "Bourne Legacy." I offered Pablo Schreiber ("Lights Out?s" Johnny) a part and he got "A Gifted Man" as recurring. I was very close to that cast and I miss writing for them. Anytime there?s something in the right age and gender, I think I could use some of those guys. Every time I have so far, they?ve had offers they couldn?t refuse. I?m happy for all of them.

"Law & Order: SVU" returns Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m.

Real Estate ? Denver construction firm working on CS projects

Denver-based Golden Triangle Construction is working on two major Colorado Springs construction projects and one in Woodland Park.

The company is building an 8,453-square foot medical facility for elder care. The new green building will house Age Well Associates (formerly Colorado Springs Senior Medicine).

The building, designed by OZ Architecture and located in Colorado Springs, is designed to accommodate Age Well?s primary patient population of seniors ages 60 and older on Medicare. The facility will have 14 patient exam rooms and a multipurpose room for health classes and seminars.

Play With the Best Video Game System and Spend Hours of Great ...

This article sheds some light on "Play With the Best Video Game System and Spend Hours of Great Fun". It's just at this time that people are beginning to know about Console Systems, discussing it on much bigger scale. Previously this matter was not that talked about. Chiefly because individuals related with the subject matter did not do enough. Get complete advantage of invaluable information in this piece of writing and please take time to understand it from top to bottom instead of just skimming through it.

Abraham David wrote this article. If you want to take this piece of writing please make sure you put a link back to this page. Article on "Play With the Best Video Game System and Spend Hours of Great Fun" starts after this.

Article Starts from Here:

Video games are one of the best forms of entertainment today. With it, you can really make your imagination come alive and become an entirely different character that fights monsters from different planets or be a Formula 1 race car driver.

To play these games, you usually go to the mall and play it on the arcade. In the arcade, you will see different games available. Some are even placed on realistic cars or fighter planes that are designed to follow every move you make. For example, if you play in a fighter plane, you will see that the machine will follow the plane?s movements, when you bank your plane right, you will feel the machine that you?re in move right too, if you pull up, you will feel that the machine will also point up.

Some of the arcade games even have a vibration feedback to alert you that you?re being hit by the enemy. There are even two player modes where you can go head to head with your friends in a dog fight or you can do cooperative missions where your friend can be your wingman. There are a lot more arcade games available.

However, you can?t go to the arcade everyday because doing so can be too expensive. Therefore, you should buy your own video gaming console where you can play right in your own home. Although it won?t contain all the realistic machines that you can find in the arcade, you can still have that great graphics and sound quality in the games.

Another great thing about buying your own gaming console is that you can have flexibility in selecting your games. There are a wide variety of games available that is not yet available or impossible to put in arcades.

In order to maximize enjoyment when you buy a video gaming system, you want to get the best. However, you may wonder what makes a good gaming console. With the number of gaming consoles available in the market today, people get confused on which gaming console they should purchase. The competition makes gaming console manufacturers develop the latest graphics and sound technology and integrate them in their systems making all the different kinds of gaming consoles in the market really stand out.

In the past, crude graphics and simple sounds were the ones available in the market. And, it was really popular. Today, quite a few gaming console manufacturers are now manufacturing the latest gaming consoles with integrated features that can even rival the power of your home personal computer.

Sega, Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony are four of the big names in the gaming console industry. They create the best gaming consoles in the market and really took the world by storm with each new version released. When you play in these consoles, you will know that it can really give quality entertainment for you and your family. When you have the time, you will spend hours on playing an action packed game with amazing realism and sound quality.

To answer the question on what makes a gaming system the best is not just about the sound quality and the graphics technology integrated on the system. Before you buy a gaming console, make sure that the gaming console has a lot of game titles supported. Besides, people would rather choose a gaming console where thousands of different games are available rather than purchasing a gaming console that only supports a few hundred games. You would eventually grow tired or bored of the only few hundred games available in a particular gaming console.

With thousands of gaming titles you can choose from, you can simply buy another game title if you get bored with your other games.

Another thing you should look for in a gaming console today is if it has additional add-on gadgets that you can connect.
