Swim Lessons: American Red Cross 2011 "Learn to Swim" classes are being offered at all city of Charleston pools. All classes are first come, first served. Fees: parent-tot $15 ($25 nonresidents); youth $20 ($30 nonresidents); adult $25 ($35 nonresidents). Makeup classes will be held Friday and/or Saturday as needed.
Fall 2011 Swim Lesson Registration: Registration is under way. Fall Session I: through Sept. 29. Fall Session II: Oct. 4-27.
Gardening Class: James Island Recreation Complex. Learn how and when to plant favorite flowers, trees, plants and shrubs. Hyam's Garden Center staff will teach this class. $10/class includes supplies. The class is offered the first Wednesday of the month. Call 795-5678.
Huck Finn Fishing Festival: Sept. 24 at Colonial Lake. Cost: $3/fisherkid. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and fishing will be held 9-11 a.m. Awards and raffle will be 11 a.m.-noon.
Lifeguard Program: Oct. 3-29 at W.L. Stephens Aquatic Center. Two-week classes are held the first Monday, Wednesday and Saturday of October.
Courting Kids Tennis Program: This entry-level children's program provides youth ages 5-17 with affordable quality tennis instruction on the Charleston Peninsula, West Ashley and Johns Island. The cost per child per session is $10 for city of Charleston residents, $25 for nonresidents. Fall Session No. 2 is 10-11:30 a.m. Saturdays at Alan Fleming Tennis Complex (Johns Island). Call the Charleston Tennis Center at 769-8258.
Charleston Swing Dance Association's Weekly Dance: Every Saturday night at Hazel Parker Playground. At 6 p.m., advance/intermediate lessons; 7 p.m., beginner lessons; and 8-11 p.m., open dancing. Admission is $5 (lesson and dance). Ages 18 and up. 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; noon-2 p.m. Saturdays.
WALK, RUN OR ROLL: 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays in Hampton Park. Park is closed to motor vehicles.
Saturday Water Fitness: Class 9-10 a.m. at W.L. Stephens Pool (indoor). Call 769-8260.
Water Aerobics: W.L. Stephens Pool. Call 769-8261.
Yoga: Classes are for all levels and ages. Instruction performed by Marilyn MacMillan. Mondays/Wednesdays, 6:45-7:45 p.m. Tuesdays/Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m. James Island Recreation Complex. $5/class or $35/month for two classes per week. Call 795-5678.
