Dakota Plains names Texas energy executive as CEO

Dakota Plains, a Wayzata-based company that transports oil out of North Dakota's Williston Basin, has named Texas energy executive Craig McKenzie as chairman and CEO.

McKenzie replaces Gabriel Claypool, who will stay with the four-year-old company as president and chief operating officer.

Dakota Plains also said in a news release it plans to expand its New Town, N.D., operations.

McKenzie has 27 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including most recently as CEO of Houston-based ZaZa Energy (Nasdaq: ZAZA). He abruptly resigned from ZaZa last July to pursue other opportunities.

He also was CEO of Canadian Superior Energy from 2007 to 2008, president of BG Trinidad & Tobago of BG Group from 2004 to 2007, and he worked for BP from 1986 to 2004.

McKenzie has a bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
