Kate Upton's arguably got Sports Illustrated to thank for giving her her big break when they put her on last year's Swimsuit Issue cover; since then, her bootyliciousness has been picked up by high fashion types - American Vogue , British Vogue , Carine Roitfeld et al . Which might explain why she grinned-and-bared it (ahem) in bikini bottoms in Antartica for her second Swimsuit Issue cover.

"Took us about 2 months to thaw out", the 20-year-old tweeted of the South Pole-based shoot (naturally the most obvious location for a magazine which focuses on swimsuits, because why wouldn't you want to put on a string bikini when glaciers are hovering in view?). Last time, she shot in the slightly less hypothermia-inducing climes of Australia.

This year's cover was meant to be unveiled on David Letterman's show tonight and then hit newsstands on Tuesday, but was "leaked" (come on, we know your publicity-drumming game: leak cover deliberately, get people talking, get more people watching, get more people buying - everyone's a winner).

The mag-genre jumping model's got next year's issue to go if she wants a place in the Sports Illustrated Hall of Fame, though: Christie Brinkley and Elle Macpherson have both done three years on the trot, Brinkley between 1979 - 1981, and Macpherson between 1986 - 1988.
