Collision at University, D'Arcy
A paramedic checks a woman involved in a collision between a southbound van and a westbound pickup truck at the intersection of University Avenue and D?Arcy Street in Cobourg Friday morning. Area resident Angela Tomkins was walking her golden retriever, Duke, when she was nearly hit by the collision."I knew it was going to happen. I saw the collision," said the shaken Tomkins, who was only feet away when the van came to rest. "It was crazy." Tomkins was hit by some of the debris from the collision as she stood on the sidewalk. "I saw her hit the airbag and I thought she was dead," Tomkins said of the driver of van. Tomkins said the woman at first wanted to get out, but she told her to stay in the vehicle, until she saw it smoking. "I walk this all the time and it should be a four-way stop." The driver of the pickup was charged with careless driving.
