WALTHAM, Mass. ? In a move that will be regarded as trend-setting or a colossal failure, the Boston Celtics introduced Brad Stevens as their new coach Friday afternoon.
Stevens, who comes to the Celtics without any NBA experience, was hired by Celtics President Danny Ainge, after six years as the highly successful coach at Butler, bringing the Bulldogs to back-to-back Final Fours.
?I?m thankful to Boston Celtic leadership team and ownership,? said Stevens, who agreed to a 6-year, $22 million dollar deal to come to Boston. ?I?m absolutely humbled to be sitting in this room, looking around at the banners.?
Ainge said Stevens, 36, was his first choice, when he contacted him on June 25.
