Need help finding things to do? Grab Gravy, today's first app worth downloading, and find local events and all the information you need to plan to attend them. We've also got CallSnap, an app that lets you respond to a call you can't take by snapping and sending a photo. Finally, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega's classic high-speed platformer, has finally come to Android for your old-school gaming approval.

Gravy ? local events (Free)

What?s it about? Find out what's going on around you with Gravy, which brings you information on events you can attend near you and ideas on what to do.

What?s cool? Gravy uses your Android device's GPS capabilities to zero in on your location and let you know what's going on around you. It lists events in your area for the day, the weekend and even further out to allow you to make plans, and it also includes channels that can suggest good ideas for what to do that don't require having an event to attend. The app makes it easy to plan your activities by providing maps and drive time estimates to let you know how much time you need to get where you're going, and it also lets you save events to your calendar so you don't forget about them.

Who?s it for? Anyone looking for ideas of what cool things to do, along with lots of information for planning them, should check out Gravy.

What?s it like? Get more event planning help from Eventbrite and Bandsintown Concerts.

What?s it about? Getting a call you can't take? CallSnap lets you reply to that call with a photo, rather than a text message or letting the call go to voice mail.

What?s cool? Many devices and apps let you skip a call you can't take by sending a quick, generic text response, but what if you want something a little more dynamic to show why you can't take a call? CallSnap lets you grab a photo of whatever it is you're doing, allowing you to send that back to the caller in place of a text response. It might not be useful in all cases, but CallSnap can be a handy option for quick communication and a fun way to tell people to buzz off, if only briefly.

Who?s it for? If you like snapping photos with your Android device and letting people know what you're up to, CallSnap offers a fun way to do so.

What?s it like? TrueCaller is also a handy app to have for dealing with calls, providing you with some caller ID info.

What?s it about? Sega's classic side-scrolling platformer is finally available on Android, complete in all its 16-bit, 2-D glory.

What?s cool? Gamers in the 1990s will remember the classic title Sonic the Hedgehog, which came in the box along with the Sega Genesis system. It's a 2-D platformer akin to Super Mario Bros. in a few ways, with a key difference: Sonic is super-fast. Much of the game is about not only dodging and defeating enemies and grabbing points by collecting rings, but about speeding through levels by making use of Sonic's quick feet, and relying on your fast resources to get you through. The Android version is optimized for mobile, adds new playable characters, and throws in a Time Attack mode to see just how fast you are.

Who?s it for? Classic Sonic fans and anyone who's into great old games and platformers needs to check out Sonic the Hedgehog.

What?s it like? Sega offers more Sonic titles as well, including Sonic Jump and Sonic 4: Episode 1.
