U.S. military not cautioned about attacks from Afghan allies

A proponent for military readiness is concerned that the U.S. military isn't adequately warning troops about the potential dangers they face at the hands of Afghan allies.

The Wall Street Journal recently reported about a draft Army handbook dealing with Afghan culture. It implies that American troops are somehow responsible for the violent "Green on Blue" attacks by Afghan allies on American service members.?

Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center of Military Readiness,?says these attacks have been happening with very serious regularity.

"We haven't seen the final report," she tells OneNewsNow. "If it does indeed accuse Americans of being responsible for that violence, that is clearly out of line and should not be accepted."??

Donnelly says, as an example, she is outraged by what a witness has said about the 2009 shooting of a female Naval officer by an Afghan "ally" who objected to her wearing shorts, while jogging at the base.

"She said they were not warned of that. The soldiers in that part of the world need to know what they're up against," she insists. "And if there are dangers that are related to the culture, they need to be warned and they need to take precautions. They need to know that this culture is very irrational. We saw that at Fort Hood. We've seen it at shootings that have occurred elsewhere."

Donnelly says the final Army handbook needs to put political correctness aside and dispel the notion that American troops are the primary cause for violent attacks by supposed Afghan "allies."
