Motorcycles two Strokes or Four?
Whether to buy a motorcycle machine that delivers one power stroke per revolution (two stroke), or one power stroke every two revolutions (four stroke), is a problem that confronts most first time motorcycle buyers. On top of that many of the salespeople at your local motorcycle or auto trades dealership may be misinformed, not knowledgeable or even downright clueless. Their job, at least in their minds, may be either to satisfy their boss by fulfilling their monthly sales quota, or upgrade you either on finance terms, or a raft of automotive and motorcycle riders accessories.
First things first for the new or avid motorcycle rider ? let us establish that both types have been developed to a very high degree of both perfection and reliability.
Both have advantages inherent in their very design and designs. Two stroke gas engines have no valves whereas four stroke gasoline engines purr like contented cats, whereas on the other side of the road both come with their own sets of disadvantages as well no doubt. So be sure to and give both engine types their due and a thorough trial and evaluation. Nothing in life or in the automotive trades is right or wrong. It all comes down to what meets your needs and motoring habits and requirements notes one very successful and established auto dealer.
And so, as we leave the fascinating, if not challenging world of ?250cc? we enter the vast continent of ?big bikes?. This region is populated by most two wheelers that are over 250 cc. True in many motorcycle riders and owners in 2010 250 cc bikes are on the low end of scale but you have to remember the big bike categories include the monster bikes that we all know and admire. Not only that but the real big bikes currently exceed engine displacements of many small classic ?sports cars? on the road and auto tracks today.
Big motorcycles with tremendous power are a thrill and the greatest fun of all. Some say they are the greatest product of the automotive industry in the last eras. How did these monsters come about on the motorcycle landscape? It can be said that heavyweight machines were an early development in the countries where motorcycles first become popular. Early pictures show giant wire wheels with narrow tread tires, long spindly pipe frames and some truly monumental engines and power plants.
Motorcycling has a history a lot older than most people realize, and some of these early machines turned in speeds on the roads that might surprise or even scare some riders and motorcycle owners even today in 2010. Of course it required much engine and cylinder size displacement to do so since early gasoline engines were inefficient when it came to gas engine engineering, manufacturing and development.
Never the less, early big bore motors did a creditable job of carrying riders around flat tracks with great dispatch and reliability. In 2010 we take a lot for granted with our luxury and basic motorcycles. Yet we owe a great debt to the early motorcycle auto manufacturers and of course the riders who left us with a great legacy of an automotive product that is both reliable and of the greatest fun.
